High Grades Xtra Training
There was a good turn out for the session of the 8th of June. It was really good to be able to focus on the higher end of the grading syllabus for forms and set sparring. We were able to practice the cudgel in greater detail and add some interesting new basics for the students to practice. Everyone benefitted from practicing the sparring set that they needed for their grading. Some practiced the Sanzhan and Sanzhan catching set too...
Good effort everyone and see you at the next High Grade Xtra Training on tSunday the 6th July 2025.
Fight Club
The Fight Club on Saturday the 28th June was made all the more challenging by the temperature soaring to over 30 deg C ! The sparring, catching and pushing hands continued through the afternoon. We took some time to run through some take downs and take down prevention too. Stamina was tested with the temperatures and rehydration was paramount to avoiding heat stroke. We are looking forward to a cooler session next time...
Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan - Exploring Sanzhan
On the Sunday 29th June session we looked deeper into the Sanzhan and investigated a variety of objectives within the catching to train the basics of, stance, posture, base, etc. whilst sensing intent and coping with the catchers applications. We were pleased to compare the Sanzhan from the Yongchun White Crane system with the Wuzuquan Sanzhan we study. The chief instructor David Courtney-Jones and his students provided an interesting point of view for their Sanzhan catching. We were also treated to various performances from our team going to KL and the White Crane team.
The whole weekend was a very good acclimatisation session for those going to the Shaolin event in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in November this year!!!
