My Background:

I began training in 1989 at an evening class for martial arts. I went along because I had always enjoyed watching Kung Fu films. I started by learning Chang Chuen Shu and have managed to reach 5th Dan level. Wushu was added to my early training and I was fortunate to win many competitions in the Nan Quan and Nan Dao categories along with numerous semi-contact sparring gold medals. For a number of years I was the British Champion in a number of Chinese martial art events around the country. I have taken part in many competitions locally, nationally and internationally but the highlight of my competition career was in China 2006. I travelled there as part of the UK team under the Coach, Shigong Kim Han. I was very proud pleased to win three gold medals for the UK and be presented with a statue of ‘Dhamo’ in recognition of the FIVE Gold Medals my husband Nigel and I jointly won when we competed there. I have been back to compete in China several times since and won another Gold and several more silver medals.

It has always been good travelling with the KIXX Martial Arts Teams to places like Ireland, Germany, Holland, Malaysia and China. The training has been good as I like to keep fit but I also like the self-defence aspects. Despite my training I feel that I have so much to learn and will spend the rest of my life trying. I am continuing to practice and improve the Wuzuquan / Wujiquan Styles of Southern Shaolin martial arts of China as taught to me by Shizu Han.

In 2010 I travelled to China once again for the International Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan Friendship Association meeting and competition.

In 2012 I was honoured to be invited to accompany Shigong Han as a UK delegate to a meeting of the International Nan Shaolin Wuzuquan Union in Quanzhou, Southern China. There I was able to meet some of the best Southern Shaolin masters, train with top students at the south Shaolin Temple in Quanzhou and have a amazing lunch with the Abbott of said Temple.

In 2016 I was very pleased to be able to go to China and meet a number of the top masters from the Southern Shaolin in Quanzhou, Southern China. I was very pleased to win two Gold medals!

In 2018 the Annual meeting this year was held in Manilla Philippines. Nigel and Tracy accompanied Shigong Han to the meeting. There was no competition this year, but plenty of demonstrations.

In 2019 we were back in Quanzhou, China for the meetings and competition. I won a Gold medal for a hand form and a silver medal for a partner sparring set performed with Nigel.

In 2023 we were fortunate to go to Jakarta, Indonesia. However, Shizu Han passed away in June of this year so this was the first trip without him! I managed to win two Gold medals.

My interests include travelling, seeing new places, enjoying other countries and meeting people. Being involved and training at KIXX Martial Arts Club has helped me to realise this on a number of occasions.
